Privacy

Inkstone collects nothing. There is no account to create, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no server belonging to us for anything to be sent to.

Your notes

Your notes are Markdown files in a folder you choose on your own device. Inkstone reads and writes them in place. It keeps its own state — window layout, the last note you had open — in a hidden .inkstone folder inside that same vault, which you are free to delete.

The network

Inkstone makes network connections in exactly three situations, all of them started by you:

• iCloud sync, if you put a vault in iCloud Drive. Your files go to Apple, under Apple's privacy policy. They do not pass through us.
• GitHub sync, if you turn it on and supply a personal access token. Your files go to the repository you nominate, under GitHub's privacy statement. The token is stored in the system Keychain and is sent only to GitHub.
• Update checks, which fetch https://inkslab.app/appcast.xml — a static file — to see whether a newer version exists. The request carries no identifier we record. You are asked on first launch whether to do this automatically, and you can say no.

Nothing else leaves your device.

This website

inkslab.app is static files served by GitHub Pages. There is no analytics script of any kind and no cookie is set. GitHub processes request logs as its infrastructure provider.

Children

Inkstone is a text editor with no social features, no user-generated content from anyone but you, and no advertising.

Changes and contact

If this policy ever changes, the date at the top changes with it and the history is public in the repository. Questions: open an issue.
